WHAT IS A: U.S. SENATOR
The job of a U.S. Senator is to act on behalf of the people of their state in federal legislative sessions to ensure the voice of the common citizen is heard. People elect their senators with the expectation that they will fight for legislation that is in the best interest of the average citizen. The Senate shares responsibility with the House of Representatives for declaring war, maintaining the armed forces, assessing taxes, regulating commerce, and making all laws necessary for the operation of government.

All states have two senators who represent their state. A U.S. Senator serves a six-year term and has no term limits.

WHAT IS A: U.S. REPRESENTATIVE
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, also known as congressmen and congresswomen, are elected officials whose job is to pass federal legislation that affects the entire country (although its bills must also be passed by the Senate and further agreed to by the U.S. President before becoming law). Representatives are expected to listen to the people they were elected by, hearing their concerns and representing their voice in Washington. They are ultimately accountable to those they represent
Due to Wyoming’s small population, we have only one U.S. Representative. Representatives are elected to two-year terms and have no term limits.

WHAT IS A: GOVERNOR
The Governor is the chief executive of the state and responsible for appointing many positions, including judges and state agency directors. Everyday job duties include oversight of the state executive leaders, policy review, as well as big picture budget management. The governor is expected to work with the legislature to ensure that the needs of the state are met through oversight hearings, new laws and the establishment of long-term goals and priorities. The Governor has authority to approve or veto state legislation.
Wyoming has one governor. A Wyoming Governor can serve up to two 4-year terms.

WHAT IS A: SECRETARY OF STATE
The Wyoming Secretary of State is the custodian of the Great Seal of the State of Wyoming. They affix the seal to and countersign commissions, official acts of the governor, and other paperwork when required by law. The Secretary of State’s primary role is to serve as the state’s chief election official, administering state elections and maintaining official election results. They are also tasked with keeping state records, from registering businesses to recording the official acts of the governor. The commissioning and regulation of notaries public, keeping of the official state seal and certification of official documents all typically fall under the purview of the secretary of state.
Wyoming has one secretary of state. The Secretary of State serves a 4-year term, and there are no term limits.

WHAT IS A: STATE AUDITOR
The State Auditor supervises and has administrative rights over the accounting and financial functions of the state. They work with state and local governments to perform financial and performance audits. The Auditor acts as a watchdog over state agencies, overseeing the investigations of state employees and publishing their findings of investigations and budgets for the government and the public.

WHAT IS A: STATE TREASURER
The State Treasurer is the state’s lead fiscal officer, responsible for overseeing revenue and finances, and generally acting as the state’s chief banker. The job of the Treasurer includes areas such as debt management and debt policy, disaster preparation, pension fund administration, oversight to prevent fraud with public money, investing public funds and managing portfolios, and payroll matters for public employees.

WHAT IS A: SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION
The State Super Intendent of Public Instruction is constitutionally entrusted with general supervision of Wyoming’s public education system and sitting on critical state boards and commissions like that of the University Board of Trustees and State Board of Land Commissioners. As one of the 5 statewide elected officials, the State Super Intendent of Public Instruction is the chief education officer in the state.
